Man Utd ready to sack Erik ten Hag?! Red Devils considering two alternatives amid worst start to a season in 61 years
In the world of football, the management of a club is just as crucial as the players on the pitch. The head coach plays a pivotal role in shaping a team’s destiny, and when things go awry, tough decisions must be made. Manchester United, one of the most storied clubs in football history, currently finds itself at a crossroads. The club is grappling with the possibility of sacking their current manager, Erik ten Hag, amid their worst start to a season in 61 years. This has sparked intense speculation about the Dutchman’s future and the potential alternatives Manchester United are considering.
Erik ten Hag’s appointment as Manchester United’s manager was met with a sense of optimism. Known for his tactical acumen and success at Ajax, many believed he could bring back the glory days of Old Trafford. Under his guidance, Ajax played an exciting and attacking brand of football that had earned them admiration from fans worldwide.
However, the reality at Manchester United has been far from the utopia that was envisioned. The 2022–2023 season began with high hopes but soon turned into a nightmare for the Red Devils. A string of disappointing results in both the Premier League and Champions League left the team in disarray.
The problems at Manchester United under Ten Hag’s leadership have been numerous. Inconsistent performances, defensive frailties, and a lack of cohesiveness on the field have frustrated fans and raised questions about the manager’s ability to turn things around.
The 2022-2023 season has seen Manchester United’s worst start in over six decades. The club’s Premier League campaign has been riddled with disappointments and setbacks. Losses to teams that they were expected to dominate, coupled with uninspiring draws, have left the team languishing in the lower half of the league table.
The club’s underwhelming performance in the Champions League has also added to the growing concerns. Manchester United’s chances of advancing to the knockout stages hang in the balance, and fans are left wondering how they fell so far from their past glory.
As the pressure mounts, questions about Erik ten Hag’s ability to lead the club out of this slump have intensified. The spotlight on the manager’s tactics, team selection, and ability to motivate the players has become increasingly harsh.
Manchester United are considering possible replacements for Erik ten Hag as his position is under scrutiny amid their woeful start to the season
United have suffered two straight heavy defeats in a row at Old Trafford, going down 3-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League and then losing to Newcastle by the same score in the Carabao Cup.
The coach’s position is being questioned at the Red Devils and The Times reports the club are already considering options to take the Dutchman’s place should they decide to sack him.
Former Real Madrid star and coach Zinedine Zidane is said to be among the options they are looking at, while Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim is also on their list.
However, the situation is made more complicated by the ongoing takeover process. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group are negotiating to purchase a 25 per cent stake in the club and assume control of sporting decisions, including managerial appointments.
Despite his side losing back-to-back matches by three or more goals for the first time in 61 years, Ten Hag maintains he can turn the situation around.
He wrote in United Review this week: “While this has not been the start to the season that we had all hoped for, I am certain that we have the talent and attitude as a collective to move in the right direction. I believe that it is only a matter of time before we are showing our true selves. It will come, I am certain. I continue to believe in these players and am confident we will improve after a difficult start to the season.”
Ten Hag and his Red Devils stars are under pressure to deliver a good result when they take on Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
