Ezeagu Local Government Area has emerged as the top performing LGA in Enugu State for routine immunization, clinching first position in Penta 3 Coverage Rate Performance for April 2025. This remarkable feat was announced during the March-April 2025 Monthly Technical Meeting on Routine Immunization Data Presentation by the Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ENS-PHCDA).
According to the data presented by ENS-PHCDA, Ezeagu LGA recorded the highest percentage of infants who received the third dose of the pentavalent vaccine, a critical measure of immunization program effectiveness. The achievement is a reflection of Ezeagu’s commitment to primary healthcare delivery.
The success underscores the focused and responsive leadership of Dr. Vita Ndu, Executive Chairman, Ezeagu LGA, whose administration has prioritized service delivery especially in grassroots level.
The pentavalent vaccine protects against five life-threatening childhood diseases: diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). Ensuring children receive all three doses is a cornerstone of routine immunization success and a major indicator tracked by state and national health authorities.
Dr. Ndu commended the dedication of health care workers, traditional rulers, town union leaders, and community mobilizers who work tirelessly to ensure immunization services reach even the most remote communities in the LGA. He also acknowledged the support of ENS-PHCDA and partner agencies who continue to provide technical and logistical support for immunization programs.
“This is a collective achievement,he added.
As the state continues its push toward full immunization coverage, Ezeagu’s milestone stands as a beacon of what is possible when leadership, accountability, and community participation come together in public health.
