The Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State and Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, has extended warm Christmas greetings to the people of Nkanu East and the entire Enugu State. In his festive message, Hon. Edeh emphasized the importance of the season as a time for unity, prayer, and reflection.
In a statement released to newsmen in Enugu, Hon. Edeh encouraged Christians to use the Christmas celebration to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity across Nkanu East, Enugu, and Nigeria as a whole. He also called on Christians to renew their commitment to the service of humanity in alignment with the teachings of Jesus Christ, which underscore virtues such as tolerance, patience, kindness, care for the needy, and love for one another.
“The yuletide season presents us an opportunity once more to love, share, and forgive. I urge Christians to utilize this period to pray for unity, peace, and prosperity in Nkanu East, Enugu, and Nigeria at large. We must also rededicate ourselves to the true virtues of faith in God, love for one another, honesty, and peaceful coexistence. It is time to make these virtues more evident and practical in our daily lives,” Hon. Edeh stated.
He further highlighted the essence of Christmas, noting, “As God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, it is important to recognize that the reason for the season is the sacrifice of our Heavenly Father and to replicate this example in our relationship with others. Christmas is thus a period to show love and practice sacrificial giving. Christianity is, after all, an expression of practical love for fellow man.”
Hon. Edeh urged the people of Nkanu East to embody the teachings of Jesus Christ by living in peace and harmony with one another. He assured the community of his administration’s commitment to fostering love, unity, and reconciliation within the local government.
“My administration will continue to be guided by these noble principles as we work to bring shared prosperity to Nkanu East and create a better society for our generation and generations yet unborn,” he concluded.
