Nigerian striker and Bayer Leverkusen star, Victor Boniface, revealed on Sunday that he survived a serious car accident. Boniface shared videos and photos of the wreckage of his car, showing the aftermath of the crash. In one video, the forward is seen looking into the camera, showing his arm with visible bloodstains.
The images depicted a black sports car that had been severely damaged in the accident. Boniface later deleted the post from his social media accounts.
According to German tabloid Bild, Boniface is “doing well, considering the circumstances” and only sustained minor injuries, as confirmed by a source close to the player.
In a social media post on Sunday, Boniface expressed his gratitude, writing, “God is the greatest” and “God says my time hasn’t come.”
As of now, his club, Bayer Leverkusen, has not made an official statement regarding the incident.
The 23-year-old striker joined Leverkusen last season, where he played a key role in their historic unbeaten run to a league and cup double, marking their first-ever Bundesliga title. His impressive performance also earned him a debut call-up to Nigeria’s national team.
This season, Boniface has continued his fine form, scoring seven goals in 10 matches across all competitions. On Saturday, despite missing a penalty, he netted the winning goal in Leverkusen’s 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Leverkusen’s next match is set for Wednesday, where they will face French side Brest in the UEFA Champions League.
