The Factional Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Lamidi Apapa has issued a directive for all the party’s lawyers who are handling its election petition before the presidential election petition court to provide a briefing on the progress made within 48 hours.
This is coming after Justice Hamza Muazu of an Abuja High Court ruled that the court possesses the necessary jurisdiction to consider a lawsuit that seeks the removal of Julius Abure, the chairman of the party, and four other national officers.
The factional chairman of the party, Mr Apapa while addressing newsmen after the ruling said the judge’s decision was a result of justice being served through due process, and he expressed his belief that the judge’s ruling was in accordance with the principles of fairness and equity.
Mr. Apapa expressed his confidence in his leadership position, stating that the ruling has confirmed his authority as the acting National Chairman of the Labour Party.

Recall that this Labour Party power tussle started after Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, challenged the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election held on February 25th.
Recall also that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced that Mr. Tinubu emerged as the President-elect with a total of 8.79 million votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) came in second with 6.98 million votes and Mr. Obi placed third with 6.10 million votes.
