Distinguished members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, recently gathered at the iconic National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, for a heartfelt joint night of tributes dedicated to their esteemed late colleagues: John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, Amaechi Munagor, and Zulu Adigwe.
The somber events began with a moving candlelight march that left the Marshal roundabout in Surulere at around five of the clock in the evening and made its way to the National Stadium Surulere’s sacred grounds. At a gathering that quickly became a social media sensation, fellow actors—including movie stars like Kenneth Okonkwo, Emeka Rollas, Zack Orji, Desmond Elliot, Victor Osuagwu, and many more—came together to honor the legacies of their departed friends. The atmosphere was laden with reverence.
The attendance of Mr. Ibu’s bereaved wife and children gave the celebration a very personal touch, as captured in a moving viral video that perfectly captures the spirit of the evening.
Mr. Ibu battled poor health for a while before passing away on March 2, 2024. According to information provided by the late legendary actor’s family, Mr. Ibu will be laid to rest in his hometown of Amuri, in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, on June 28, 2024.
