In a recent development, the Gwa Gwa Division of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command apprehended a pregnant woman who orchestrated her own kidnapping in collusion with her boyfriend, aiming to extort N2 million from her unsuspecting husband.
According to an official statement released by the command on Wednesday, titled “Arrest of a Married Woman Who Faked Her Own Kidnap, Shared the Ransom with Her Boyfriend,” the pregnant wife, identified as Rosemary Ubah, and her accomplice, Walter Ezeala, devised the scheme while both residing in the same vicinity.
The statement outlined that Rosemary Ubah initially left her residence on March 11, 2024, purportedly for a medical scan but failed to return home. Subsequently, her husband, Chiedozie Ubah, received a distressing call from her phone, claiming she had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of N2 million for her release.
In a desperate attempt to secure his wife’s freedom, Chiedozie Ubah complied with the demand and transferred the specified sum into his wife’s bank account as instructed by the supposed kidnapper. However, upon her release and subsequent interrogation, Rosemary Ubah confessed to colluding with Walter Ezeala to orchestrate the fake kidnapping as a means of extorting money from her husband.
Walter Ezeala, upon his arrest, admitted to his involvement in the scheme, disclosing that he received N800,000 as his share, while Rosemary Ubah pocketed the remaining N1,200,000. Authorities recovered a significant portion of the extorted cash, totaling N793,500, along with two FCMB ATM cards and two android phones from the culprits.
Both suspects are currently in custody and will face legal charges for their fraudulent actions.
