Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha Participates in 4-Day Workshop in Kigali, Rwanda Focused on Public Accounts and Accountability, Affirms House of Representatives' Commitment to Enhancing Accountability in Public Account Management
On March 25th, 2024, Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, the representative of the Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, actively participated in a four-day workshop organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts in Kigali, Rwanda.
The intensive workshop aimed to enhance public sector performance by implementing best audit practices. Various thematic issues were thoroughly discussed, including an overview of audit engagement, the concept of public audit, ethics for public sector auditors, communication principles, and an examination of the roles of public sector organizations in the oil and gas sector.
Hon. Umeha commended the organizers for their initiative and pledged to evaluate the key takeaways from the workshop. He assured that the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts would consider incorporating relevant insights into Nigeria’s public account regime through potential legislative amendments.
The workshop concluded with a social and educational excursion, during which participants visited the Rwandan National Parliament and the Rwandan Genocide Memorial Centre in Kigali.
Following the workshop, Hon. Umeha proceeded to Cotonou, Benin Republic, to attend the 2nd Meeting of the ECOWAS Regional Parliamentary Network on Malaria Elimination. This two-day event, held at the Benin Royal Hotel, aims to address regional strategies for combatting malaria and promoting public health initiatives.
