Renowned Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has called on Nigerians to uphold their cultural heritage and traditions, emphasizing their importance in preserving identity and independence.
In a recent social media post, the actor, who also launched an online church, urged Nigerians to refrain from destroying shrines and traditional deities, highlighting the colonial influence that demonized indigenous beliefs.
“It’s crucial to recognize that deities are not inherently evil. The narrative of their malevolence was crafted by colonial powers to facilitate subjugation,” Edochie stated on his Instagram page.
He stressed the need for Nigerians to reconnect with their roots, emphasizing that many traditional practices acknowledge a supreme being. Edochie cautioned against unwarranted destruction of cultural symbols, warning of potential consequences.
However, his remarks sparked a debate online, with some questioning his alignment with multiple faiths. Others speculated about the future direction of his spiritual endeavors, given his recent venture into online ministry.
While facing criticism, Edochie remains steadfast in his advocacy for cultural preservation and spiritual diversity, believing that embracing tradition is vital for Nigeria’s collective identity and progress.
In January, the actor announced the launch of the True Salvation Ministry, an online church aimed at spreading what he describes as the “true message of God.” The ministry’s services are held weekly on his YouTube channels, reflecting Edochie’s commitment to spiritual exploration and engagement with his audience.
