National Commission For Persons with Disabilities to Probe Rano Airline Over Discrimination

The NCPWD is investigating allegations of discrimination by Rano Airline against Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai at Maiduguri Airport

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has raised concerns over reports alleging that Rano Airline discriminated against Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai, the State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, at Maiduguri Airport in Borno State.

In a statement released Wednesday by Saleh Faruq Gagarawa, Head of New Media at NCPWD, the Commission emphasized its strong stance against discrimination. The statement read, “The NCPWD takes any allegations of discrimination seriously and is committed to upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. Discrimination is unacceptable and goes against the principles of inclusivity and equality we strive to promote.”

The NCPWD declared that in order to get all relevant information and guarantee a fair and open procedure, a comprehensive inquiry into the occurrence had been initiated. In order to get a complete resolution, the statement pleaded with all parties to assist the investigation. The statement said, “We are dedicated to making sure that justice is done and that the rights of people with disabilities are respected.” The NCPWD also urged all airlines and other transportation companies to uphold the rights of people with disabilities and guarantee equitable access to their services. The Commission declared, “We must collaborate to build a society that is inclusive and hospitable to all individuals, regardless of their ability.”

The NCPWD assured the public that it would provide updates on the investigation’s progress and any developments in the case. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusivity and combating discrimination against persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

In order to address the difficulties encountered by people with disabilities in Nigeria, the NCPWD’s inquiry into the alleged discrimination by Rano Airline is essential. It acts as a reminder of how crucial it is to maintain legal protections and guarantee that the rights of people with disabilities are upheld in real life. All parties involved must collaborate completely with the investigation and support initiatives aimed at building a more just and inclusive society. The verdict in this case would not only affect Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai but also establish a benchmark for handling similar cases going forward, which could result in major improvements for the rights of Nigerians with disabilities.

Both public and private organizations must continue to be committed to and take action in support of ensuring accessibility and eliminating prejudice. Nigeria may go closer to realizing inclusion and equality for all of its residents, regardless of ability, by tackling these problems head-on.
