Authorities in Oke-Owa, located in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State, are currently on the lookout for an unidentified nurse who allegedly performed an abortion on Deborah Sokoya, leading to severe complications and hospitalization.
According to information obtained by PUNCH Metro from a police source, the nurse is said to be evading arrest after the abortion procedure went awry, resulting in excessive bleeding and medical emergency for the victim.
Deborah Sokoya had reportedly informed her partner, Peter Balogun, that she was visiting her elder sister, Mutiat Sokoya. Upon reaching Mutiat’s residence in the Iperin area of Ijebu-Ode, Deborah was reportedly convinced by her sister to undergo the procedure.
The police, upon investigation, discovered that this was not the first instance of such an incident involving Peter Balogun. It was revealed that Balogun had previously financed an abortion for the same girlfriend in 2023.
When contacted for comments, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Peter Balogun had reported the termination of his unborn child. Odutola mentioned that investigations revealed Balogun’s involvement in a previous abortion and that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing nurse and other accomplices.
The victim, Deborah Sokoya, is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be responding well.
