A police officer was killed on Tuesday night in Imo State by gunmen who also set fire to a local police station. The incident took place at NEPA Junction, Umulogho, in the Obowo Local Government Area.
According to sources, the attackers dragged the officer out of his residence before killing him. Witnesses reported that the gunmen searched the area to ensure no other police officers were present. The assailants spent approximately 45 minutes in the area, firing shots into the air to intimidate residents.
Following the night attack, the same group of gunmen returned in the morning and torched the Otoko Divisional Police Station, located along the Owerri-Umuahia road.
The wave of violence continued as the gunmen also targeted Umuelemai in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, where they killed two security guards and set several vehicles on fire.
ASP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incidents, stating that the command is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He assured residents that tactical units have been deployed to the affected areas to restore security and protect lives and property.
