Wike's Threats Spark Backlash from PDP Governors Over Party Unity

PDP Governors Slam Wike for Unacceptable Threats Against Their States

Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have strongly condemned recent threats made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who vowed to “set their states on fire” if they interfere in the affairs of the party in Rivers State.

Wike Threatens PDP Governors With Fire In Their States If.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Bala Mohammed-led PDP Governors’ Forum, and signed by its Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the governors described Wike’s remarks as reckless, irresponsible, and unacceptable. The forum expressed concern over Wike’s statements, which have gone viral on social media.

Despite Wike’s threats, the governors have pledged their continued support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, ensuring that he receives all the rights and privileges due to a sitting governor within the party.

The forum’s statement emphasized, “Wike’s threats to disrupt peace in PDP-controlled states are unrestrained, irresponsible, and totally unacceptable, as they undermine our collective efforts to maintain peace, unity, and mutual respect among party leaders and members. It’s unfortunate that such remarks are coming from someone who was once part of this esteemed forum as a former governor.”

The statement continued, “Our forum has always adhered to the principle of ‘touch one, touch all’ and remains united in supporting each other, regardless of the circumstances—a tradition that Wike himself greatly benefited from during his tenure as governor. Our stance on the affairs of the PDP in Rivers State, as resolved unanimously at our recent meetings in Enugu and Taraba States, remains unchanged and is not subject to review by any individual, no matter how highly placed.”

The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working with the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure that Governor Fubara is granted all the privileges he is entitled to as a PDP governor, both at the state and national levels.

“Our commitment to the unity of our party is unwavering. The PDP has always valued unity and collective progress. The recent actions of the governors, including their support for Governor Fubara, reflect their dedication to these values. It is crucial for all party members, including Wike, to prioritize common goals over personal grievances,” the statement read.

The forum urged the PDP’s National Working Committee to use both formal and informal channels to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Rivers State chapter of the party. It called for all parties involved to embrace dialogue and reconciliation, emphasizing that these are the only pathways to resolving differences and strengthening the party.

Finally, the forum urged national security agencies to take note of Wike’s threats to incite violence at the state level, stressing that no one is above the law.
