Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that the ongoing conflict between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reached a point of no return, with reconciliation unlikely.
Fayose made the remarks during an interview on Channels TV, where he expressed concern over the escalating power struggle between the two leaders over control of Rivers State’s political machinery. The feud has resulted in a split within the state assembly and multiple legal actions.
Describing the situation as “very unfortunate,” Fayose recalled how he had previously advised Fubara to steer clear of Wike’s influence shortly after his electoral victory.
“The crisis has crossed the Rubicon. The situation has escalated too far,” Fayose said. “Even if efforts are made to resolve it, trust is already broken. I believe it’s too late for reconciliation.”
On Atiku’s Presidential Ambition
Fayose also addressed the political future of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that it is time for him to step aside from presidential contests due to his age.
“I think Atiku should consider retiring from the race for the presidency. By the time President Tinubu finishes his term, Atiku will be around 80 or 81. What more would he be looking to achieve?” Fayose asked.
He added that Nigerians are now more eager for a younger generation of leaders, stressing the importance of leaving the political stage while the ovation is still loud.
