An 18-year-old man identified as Anichede Akachukwu, alias Star B, has been arrested by the police in Anambra State. Akachukwu is reputed to be a notorious cultist and the leader of an armed robbery gang.
According to a statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect has been involved in numerous robberies in Asaba, Delta State, and Ogbaru in Anambra.
The arrest took place while Akachukwu was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound sustained during a confrontation with police operatives.
A segment of the statement read: “We announce the arrest on 17/5/2024 of a notorious and most wanted cultist and armed robber in Uruagu village, Oba, Idemili South LGA. The suspect, Anichede Akachukwu ‘M’ 18 years A.K.A Star B is a confessed leader of Vikings Secret Cult Confraternity and armed gang terrorizing Ogbaru LGA and Asaba in Delta State.”
Akachukwu’s arrest followed a tip-off received by the police, leading to his apprehension while seeking medical attention for his injuries sustained during the encounter with law enforcement.
The statement further revealed that the suspect has provided valuable information to the police regarding the operations of his gang and the identities of other members, aiding ongoing investigations.
In a separate operation at Okija, Ihiala LGA, the police recovered a white Porsche Cayenne Jeep suspected to be an operational vehicle of secessionists. Upon searching the vehicle, operatives found ammunition, cartridges, a touch light, charms, and other incriminating items.
The Commissioner of Police has instructed operatives to maintain momentum and intensify efforts to eradicate criminal elements and minimize crime in the state.
The arrest of Akachukwu marks a significant breakthrough in law enforcement efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety and security of residents in Anambra State.
