These retired officers include 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals, all of whom were pulled out of service in a ceremony held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
The Artillery Corps, known for delivering critical firepower support in battle, plays a crucial role in the Nigerian Army’s operations. The retirement ceremony, a significant event in military tradition, honored the contributions of the generals who dedicated their careers to the defense of Nigeria.
In a statement shared by the Nigerian Army on social media platform X, it was announced, “The Nigerian Army formally pulled out 15 retired generals from the Artillery Corps on Saturday, October 19, 2024, during a ceremony at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State.”
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Major General James Myam (retd.) reflected on their years of service, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation. He attributed their successful military careers to divine guidance and protection, and thanked President Bola Tinubu for the platform to serve. Myam also extended his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, commending his leadership and offering wishes for continued strength and wisdom.
Reflecting on their beginnings, Major General Myam recalled the early days when they first reported to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna as young Officer Cadets. He offered advice to the officers still serving, urging them to remain loyal to the Constitution, support the democratically elected government, and stay vigilant in ensuring security.
The retired general also took a moment to express gratitude to the families, spouses, friends, and mentors who supported them throughout their military careers, acknowledging their vital role in their success.
The event was attended by several high-ranking military officers, both retired and serving, including former Chief of Army Staff, Major General Alwali Kazir (retd.).
This ceremony marks the end of an era for these distinguished officers, who leave behind legacies of service, dedication, and leadership within the Nigerian Army.
