MTN Subscribers Face Network Outage: A Look Into the Impact and Resolution Efforts

MTN telecommunications network is currently down as subscribers of the telecommunication service find it impossible to make or receive calls while others are not able to make use of their internet through the network.

MTN, one of the leading telecommunication service providers, has been grappling with network outage issues, leaving its subscribers unable to make calls or access the internet through the network. MTN, while responding to this on Wednesday night revealed the cause of the network problem as a “major service outage caused by multiple fibre cuts, affecting voice and data services.”

The telecommunications service added that its engineers are working hard to resolve with services gradually being restored in some areas.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and ask for your patience and understanding as the team works to restore full service as soon as possible,” the network provider stated.

Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission has reiterated its directive to telecom operators to bar telephone subscribers not linked to their National Identification Numbers on or before February 28, 2024.

The Executive Vice Chairman, National Communication Commission, Dr Aminu Maida, spoke at the NCC’s Special Day during the ongoing 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair on Wednesday.

He reaffirmed that the February 28th deadline given to telecom operators to bar subscribers who failed to link their NIN to SIM, stands.

“To this end, the National Communication Commission has directed all telecommunication operators to bar phone lines of subscribers whose lines are not linked to their NINs on or before February 28, 2024,” he added.

As of now, we are pleased to report that services are gradually being restored in some areas. Our engineers have made significant progress in troubleshooting and resolving the underlying issues causing the network outage.
