There has been a reported outbreak of heavy gunfire in Rumuepirikom Community, the hometown of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during the ongoing local government elections in Rivers State.
According to sources in the area, unidentified individuals earlier entered the community, warning residents to stay indoors and avoid participating in the polls. As electoral officers approached the ward in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, heavily armed gunmen reportedly stormed the scene, unleashing gunfire and forcing people to flee.
The presence of the gunmen has caused widespread panic, with residents too scared to come out and vote. In the chaos, one person is said to have sustained a gunshot wound and has been rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
