In the early hours of Saturday, terrorists initiated a fresh assault on the Dogon-noma community located within the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. This disturbing incident occurred just days after a previous attack resulted in the tragic death of one individual and the abduction of eight women from the Banono Angwaku community within the same local government area.
Cafra Caino, a former chairman of the local government, verified the occurrence of the recent attack to our correspondent on Saturday. According to Caino, the assailants, numbering significantly, launched their assault on the village at approximately 5:45 am, employing indiscriminate gunfire.
Caino lamented, “The exact number of casualties remains unknown as the residents fled for safety upon the invaders’ arrival, leaving chaos and uncertainty in their wake.” He also highlighted that the community had previously suffered a devastating attack in 2019, resulting in the loss of 74 lives, and has been subjected to recurring assaults in recent times.
Reports from PUNCH Online reveal that Kajuru and Chikun Local Government Areas have witnessed a surge in attacks and kidnappings in recent weeks, further exacerbating the security situation in the region.
Despite efforts to obtain official information, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, was unreachable due to driving at the time of contact. However, our attempts to reach him via text message remained unanswered at the time of this report.
