In a recent communique issued following the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide retreat themed “Ako Bu Ije”, the group has urged South-East governors and security agencies to intensify efforts in addressing the prevalent insecurity in the region.
The communique, signed by the national secretary, Okey Emuchay, and national publicity secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, highlighted insecurity as a significant obstacle to the region’s development. It stressed the need for collaborative efforts among governors, security agencies, and civil society organizations to bolster security measures.
Furthermore, the retreat emphasized the importance of security in unlocking the region’s potential, particularly in the agriculture sector. It called on Igbo governors to prioritize security to attract investors and ensure confidence in the region.
Additionally, the retreat underscored the urgency of securing the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). It recognized the vast human and natural resources within the Igbo community and advocated for a tailored regional development agenda aligned with contemporary global standards.
The communique also highlighted the need for proactive media engagement to mobilize support and identify key stakeholders for collective action. It urged specialized Ohanaeze committees to play an active role in advancing the new Igbo agenda in alignment with modern socio-economic realities.
Moreover, the retreat endorsed the proposed establishment of a N10 billion endowment fund from Igbos in the diaspora to enhance Ohanaeze’s financial stability, demonstrating a commitment to fostering sustainable development in Ala-Igbo.
Overall, the retreat emphasized collaboration between Ohanaeze leadership and Igbo governors as pivotal to achieving the transformational goals set forth for the region.
