The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) announced the extension of the service year for three members in Gombe State. According to the State Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, 772 Batch B Stream I corps members successfully completed their national service in the state, while seven members absconded.
Speaking on Thursday at a low-key passing out ceremony for the batch, Nwachuku stated that out of 782 corps members, only 772 satisfactorily completed their service. The extensions are due to various offenses committed by the affected individuals.
She said, “Seven absconded and three have had their service extended. Balance of 772 to pass out.”
Speaking further on her delight to address the 772 corps members on their passing out ceremony, Nwachuku congratulated them on achieving the feat of serving their father land in Gombe State.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our lives. You have completed your service to the nation, and its time to bid farewell to this chapter of your journey. We came together as strangers, but we leave as friends, united by shared experience and memories.
“As we go our separate ways, remember that the values and skill developed during the service year will stay with you forever. Let’s hold on to the spirit of service, discipline and resilience that has defined our service year,” Nwachuku said.
Nwachuku lauded them for their active participation in Community Development Service adding, “Let me at this juncture appreciate the effort of Corps Members who stood out in Community Development Service by initiating and executing viable projects in their host communities. Your efforts have complemented the effort of the Government in developing rural communities. May I on behalf of the Director – General Brig. Gen YD Ahmed, express the profound gratitude of NYSC Management for your enormous contributions that is keeping the scheme visible and relevant. May your labour of love be rewarded.”
She urged them to be good ambassadors of NYSC, adding that “As you venture into new horizons, let’s keep the bonds of friendship and continue to support and uplift each other. Finally, it is pertinent I charge you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC scheme. My dear children may our paths cross again and may our future be bright and prosperous. See you at the top soonest.
