Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, Member representing the good people of Udi and Ezeagu in the Nigerian House of Representatives, recently participated in the Parliamentary Stakeholders Consultative Meeting on Tuberculosis held at the Lagos Continental Hotel.
During the two-day event, discussions centered on the alarming rates of Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Buruli Ulcer in Nigeria, highlighting the urgent need for effective intervention strategies.

Citing statistics revealing a 40% Tuberculosis burden and a 70% funding gap as of 2022, as well as an annual average of 2,000 Leprosy cases, Hon Sunday Umeha emphasized the country’s significant challenges in achieving the goal of disease eradication by 2035.
Umeha stressed the importance of increased investment in the health sector to facilitate early detection and diagnosis of diseases, thereby improving survival rates. He commended the organizers for their efforts and called for collaboration between the 10th National Assembly and the Federal Ministry of Health to translate the meeting’s outcomes into actionable measures addressing Nigeria’s Tuberculosis prevalence.
