Enugu Youths To Benefit From The Maurice Akueme Foundation (MAF) MedicAid Scheme

Maurice Akueme Foundation Launches Health Aid Initiative for Enugu Youths

In a bid to address the healthcare needs of Enugu youths, the Maurice Akueme Foundation (MAF) has announced the launch of its health aid/insurance scheme, dubbed the MAF MedicAid Scheme (MAF-MaS).

Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme, President of the Maurice Akueme Foundation, revealed that the initiative aims to provide financial assistance to Enugu youths for hospital bills and access to quality healthcare services.

The Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comr. Bartholomew Ebuka Okoh, formalized the partnership between the Maurice Akueme Foundation and the youth council through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Under this agreement, at least 20 Enugu youths will benefit from the MAF-MaS, receiving N50,000 each towards their medical expenses.

Expressing concern over the mortality rate among Enugu youths, Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme emphasized the importance of access to quality healthcare as a fundamental human right. He stressed that quality healthcare is essential for individuals to achieve and maintain good health, prevent and manage illnesses, and ultimately improve overall well-being and longevity.

Initially established to cater to the healthcare needs of its members, the Maurice Akueme Foundation’s MedicAid Scheme has evolved into a public assistance program. Renowned for its philanthropic endeavors, the UK-based charitable organization has sponsored various healthcare programs, donated essential supplies to medical facilities, and provided assistance to the sick and needy.

During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, the Maurice Akueme Foundation collaborated with the GburusCare Initiative to distribute free healthcare services, safety materials, sanitizers, nose masks, food, and other essentials to over 200 homes in Enugu communities.

Beyond healthcare, the foundation plays a significant role in promoting social and economic development by reducing healthcare costs, increasing productivity, and enhancing the quality of life in Enugu and beyond.

Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all individuals, regardless of their social or economic status. By launching the MedicAid Scheme, the Maurice Akueme Foundation aims to bridge the gap in healthcare access and contribute to the well-being of Enugu youths.
