A fierce gun battle erupted between Nigerian soldiers and unidentified gunmen in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, reportedly resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
The confrontation took place at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano on Monday night, as reported by The Nation. Sources indicate that non-state actors launched an attack, killing several soldiers in the vicinity. “The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities,” one eyewitness stated.
As the gunfire erupted, residents fled in fear, creating an atmosphere of chaos and uncertainty. “We are terrified,” said an anonymous local. “The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried. Ehime used to be a serene environment, and we don’t know what is happening.”
At the time of this report, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Police had issued any statements regarding the incident when contacted.
This violent outbreak follows recent events in which the home of Senator Frank Ibezim, a former representative of the Okigwe senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly, and the National Open University center in Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, were set ablaze. The Imo State Police Command condemned these acts of violence.
