
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the date for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election. According to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the election is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Prof. Yakubu made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with political party representatives at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. He noted that the upcoming election is necessary as the current term in Anambra State, which began following the November 2021 election, is coming to an end.
“Following the expiration of the current term, the Anambra State Governorship election will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025,” Yakubu stated. He further highlighted that in compliance with the required 360-day notice, the official announcement for the election will be made on November 13, 2024.
Key milestones for the election process were also outlined:
- Party primaries: Scheduled from March 20, 2025, to April 10, 2025.
- Candidate nominations: The nomination portal will open on April 18, 2025, at 9:00 am and close on May 12, 2025, at 6:00 pm. The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025.
- Campaigns: Political parties can begin public campaigns on June 11, 2025, and they must end by midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Prof. Yakubu also emphasized that voting will take place in all 5,720 polling units across the state. He further mentioned that more information regarding voter registration, transfers, and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be shared in the coming weeks.
