Controversial figure Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has made headlines again, alleging in a recent voice note that he paid N5 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to secure a pardon from the Federal Government for money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a recording shared by social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky stated that the SAN initially demanded N10 million for his legal assistance. However, due to the freezing of his bank accounts by the EFCC, he was unable to meet the full amount. The voice note was reportedly recorded on May 16, 2024.
According to Bobrisky, his godfather came to his aid, providing the initial N5 million. Despite his predicament, he indicated that he felt uncomfortable asking for additional financial help, as his godfather had already made arrangements for him to stay in a furnished apartment near the prison.
Bobrisky also addressed speculation about his incarceration, clarifying, “I’m not in prison, but I’m around there.” He explained that his godfather negotiated with the Deputy Controller of Nigeria’s Correctional Service to allow him to stay in the apartment instead of being placed in a traditional prison facility. “As long as I don’t post or say anything, they can put me close to the place so I can always come inside and see people, and welcome my family. Nobody needs to know,” he said.
The cross-dresser revealed that efforts are ongoing to secure a pardon, which could expedite his release. “I’m supposed to finish my sentence by July, but if we get the amnesty, I could leave by the first week of next month. My godfather gave me N5 million, and we sent it to the SAN two weeks ago. He has already submitted the pardon request,” Bobrisky stated.
He also shared details about the living arrangements made for him, noting concerns over his safety if placed in a male facility due to the risk of harassment. Bobrisky reiterated that the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service facilitated his stay nearby.
This revelation comes after earlier claims made by Bobrisky that EFCC operatives demanded N15 million to drop the charges against him. He also mentioned that his godfather and the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison. Additionally, he alleged that human rights lawyer Femi Falana sought a presidential pardon for him in exchange for N10 million.
