During a recent address, Obasanjo passionately articulated his belief in the potential of the younger generation to drive positive change. He implored Nigerian youths to be proactive, assertive, and unafraid to disrupt the status quo, emphasizing that their collective ambition and innovation could be the catalyst for a transformative turnaround in the nation’s fortunes.

The seasoned statesman, known for his pivotal role in Nigeria’s political history, conveyed a sense of optimism that, with the right leadership and governance, Nigeria could witness a remarkable transformation in as little as two years. Obasanjo’s call to action extends beyond mere rhetoric; it serves as a poignant reminder that the destiny of the nation lies in the hands of those who are ready to take up the mantle of responsibility.

Obasanjo’s advice to be “positively disruptive” resonates as a clarion call for change-makers who are unafraid to challenge existing norms and envision a Nigeria that is more responsive to the needs and aspirations of its citizens. The former president’s words carry weight, given his wealth of experience in steering the ship of the nation through various challenges.

The concept of youth involvement in governance is not novel, but Obasanjo’s advocacy adds a crucial voice to the ongoing discourse. The seasoned leader acknowledges the unique perspective, energy, and creativity that the youth bring to the table. His call for youth participation is not just about filling positions but actively contributing to shaping policies and driving the socio-economic agenda of the nation.

As Obasanjo encourages the youth to seize the opportunity for governance, he also highlights the historical context of Nigeria’s struggle for independence. The former president expressed gratitude to those who fought for the nation’s freedom, emphasizing that the sacrifices made during the struggle should serve as a constant reminder of the responsibility and privilege of participating in governance.

The idea that Nigeria could experience a significant turnaround in just two years is both a challenge and a beacon of hope. It underscores the belief that with visionary and effective leadership, coupled with the energy and innovation of the youth, transformative changes are not only possible but achievable in a relatively short span.

Speaking at the Emerging Political Leaders Fellowship programme organized by the Bridge Foundation in Abuja, Obasanjo encouraged the youth to be positively disruptive in their pursuit of political power.

“You are the leaders of today; if you don’t take it now, you will never get it. You have to be positively disruptive; don’t accept things the way they are. You need to make those who need to be made uncomfortable,” he emphasized.

Obasanjo, while advising the youth not to lose focus on their political ambitions, suggested that Nigeria could experience a turnaround in two years if governance is on the right course.

Additionally, he urged Nigerians to express gratitude to the generation that fought for the nation’s independence. Emphasizing the need for common security and shared prosperity, Obasanjo called on citizens to draw lessons from the country’s history.
