A man, identified as Marcel Udeh, reportedly killed his son over food, in Umunneochi LGA of Abia state

The incident unfolded when Udeh reportedly discovered that his son had eaten the remaining food in the pot without his permission.

In anger, he was alleged to have dashed into his room, brought out a gun and fired at his son, leading to the victim’s death.

Reacting to the incident, Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the Abia police command, said that the incident was reported at the Umunneochi Division, adding that the suspect has been arrested.

“Yes, we got a report at Umunneochi Division, the suspect has been arrested and the matter has currently been transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation and will be charged to court afterwards,” the spokesperson said.

Community Support Systems: Building strong community support systems, including peer networks, community kitchens, and food banks, can help foster solidarity and resilience within communities, enabling them to cope with economic challenges collectively.

The tragic incident in Umunneochi LGA serves as a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences of economic hardship and food insecurity. As we mourn the loss of a young life and grapple with the senselessness of such violence, it is imperative that we redouble our efforts to address the underlying root causes of poverty and deprivation. Let us come together to build a future where no one has to resort to desperate measures for a meal, and where every child can grow up in safety and dignity.
