Enugu State Assembly Shakeup: Six Labour Party Lawmakers Cross Over to PDP

Breaking News: Six Labour Party Lawmakers Switch Allegiance to PDP

In a surprising turn of events, six members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, who were elected under the banner of the Labour Party, have made a significant announcement during the ongoing plenary session. They have officially declared their defection to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmakers explained that their decision to defect stemmed from the persistent internal conflicts within the Labour Party, both at the national and state levels. They highlighted the existence of irreconcilable divisions and incessant crises, which have hampered the party’s ability to effectively represent the interests of the people.

Formerly regarded as a beacon of hope for progressive ideals, the Labour Party has, unfortunately, become synonymous with internal discord, significantly diminishing its capacity to fulfill the aspirations of the electorate.

The legislators specifically mentioned the contentious factions within the party, such as the Abure and Apapa factions, as well as the ongoing legal battles involving the national treasurer and the parent body, NLC.

Expressing optimism about their decision to join the PDP, the lawmakers conveyed gratitude to the leadership of the Labour Party for their past support. They expressed confidence that the PDP would provide them with a conducive platform to continue serving the interests of their constituents.

Among those who formally announced their defection are Hon. Ejike Eze, representing Igboeze North I and serving as the Chief Whip of the house; Hon. Johnson Ugwu, the leader of the house representing Enugu North; Hon. Princess Ugwu, representing Enugu South Rural; Hon. Pius Ezeugwu, representing Nsukka West; Hon. Amuka Williams, representing Igbo-Etiti West; and Hon. Osita Eze, representing Oji River.

The motion for their defection to be accepted was moved by Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu and seconded by Rt. Hon. Jane Eneh.
