The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a decisive step by suspending its National Vice Chairman (South South), Dan Orbih, citing what it describes as his inappropriate conduct and statements ahead of the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election.
In an official statement released by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, following the party’s 588th meeting on Wednesday, the National Working Committee unanimously agreed to suspend Orbih. The decision came after thorough consideration of various complaints and issues surrounding Orbih’s actions, which the party deemed contrary to the PDP constitution as amended in 2017 and the responsibilities of his office.
“The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party at its 588th meeting today, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, reviewed all matters concerning the activities of the National Vice Chairman (South South), Chief Dan Orbih, regarding the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election in Edo State,” the statement read.
The committee condemned what it termed Orbih’s “embarrassing actions and utterances” related to the Edo State governorship primary election. Consequently, a six-member committee chaired by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, has been established to investigate the matter in accordance with the party’s constitution. Orbih remains suspended from participating in all NWC meetings, activities, and programs pending the committee’s findings.
Despite the suspension, the NWC acknowledged Orbih’s widespread support among the people of Edo State who are aligned with the party and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo. The committee urged leaders, stakeholders, and party members in Edo State to remain united, focused, and committed to securing victory for the PDP and its candidate in the upcoming election.
