Anambra Police Deny Report Of Missing Rifles

On Monday, there was a report about the disappearance of guns donated to the local vigilante security team in the Awada community in the Idemili north LGA of the state.

Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said on Wednesday that the report’s goal was to “create tension in the state.” Nineteen weapons reported missing in the state have been refuted by the Anambra police command. The disappearance of firearms given to the neighborhood vigilante security squad in the Awada village of the Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) has been reported by Azeere.com

On Wednesday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, stated that the report was intended to “cause tension in the state.” He emphasized that the command has not received any reports of missing guns and is currently investigating the claim.

Ikenga reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.

“Anambra state police frowns at a publication titled ‘Fear in Anambra Community Over Missing 19 Rifles’ and describes the report as a publication to promote personal agenda and seek attention,” the statement reads.

“The command notes the unprofessional attitude of some media persons who deliberately published stories to achieve a selfish interest, especially without recourse to the authority’s concern.

“It is disheartening that, when you go through the report, it is clear that a case of such magnitude was not reported to any security agency or any concerned authority,” Ikenga said.

“Therefore, the command sees it as information targeted to cause tension in the state, to promote a rift between two groups, and to further personal agenda but it will be investigated.”

A positive discourse and cooperation among stakeholders is necessary to resolve any underlying concerns in light of the recent occurrence. All efforts to improve public safety protocols and security infrastructure should be directed by transparency and accountability. Furthermore, as false information and fake news seriously undermine social cohesiveness and efficient government, the fight against them must be escalated. Going forward, the answer from the Anambra Police Command should act as a reminder of the value of accurate information in public discussions, especially when it comes to security-related issues. Even with ongoing difficulties, the neighborhood, vigilante organizations, and law enforcement can work together to reduce dangers and create a more secure atmosphere for all locals.
