A tragic incident unfolded in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, where a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, is accused of fatally stabbing his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, aged 25. The horrific event occurred on Friday following a heated argument between the couple at their residence in Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, Motunrayo allegedly stabbed Olajumoke multiple times during the confrontation. Afterward, he locked her inside the room and set it ablaze. In a disturbing twist, the suspect also inflicted injuries on himself after committing the crime.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call and managed to extinguish the fire. Upon entering the room, they discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body, which showed signs of abdominal wounds.
A statement from police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin outlined the sequence of events: “On October 4, we received a call reporting a domestic altercation involving the newlywed couple. The husband reportedly stabbed his wife to death, locked her in the room, and then set it on fire, while he also injured himself.”
Motunrayo was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. After being discharged, he was placed in police custody for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest that he stabbed his wife during the argument and inflicted minor wounds on himself.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy as the investigation continues.
