At least four people were killed on Tuesday when rampaging armed robbers, suspected to be hired assassins, attacked a supermarket in Nigeria’s federal capital territory, Abuja.
The targeted establishment, Abdullahi Supermarket, located in One Man Village near Mararaba, fell victim to a brazen assault by armed robbers on Tuesday. The assailants, believed to be hired assassins, unleashed a wave of violence that claimed the lives of four individuals. The identities of the three other victims are yet to be ascertained at the time of this report, further adding to the sense of urgency surrounding the investigation.
Among the casualties was an employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria, marking a tragic loss for both the individual’s family and the financial institution. The motivation behind targeting a CBN staff member remains unclear, but it undoubtedly raises concerns about potential motives linked to the victim’s professional role.
The attack has left the local community in shock and grief, as residents grapple with the sudden and brutal loss of their fellow citizens. Abdullahi Supermarket, a popular shopping destination, has long been a hub for the community, making the incident even more unsettling for the residents of One Man Village.
The audacity of the attack on a prominent establishment like Abdullahi Supermarket raises serious questions about the state of security in Abuja. The federal capital territory is expected to be a beacon of safety and order, making such incidents particularly alarming. Authorities are now under pressure to address the security lapses that allowed armed assailants to storm a public place and carry out a deadly attack.
Among those killed during the attack on the popular Abdullahi Supermarket in One Man Village, near Mararaba, was a staff member of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to reports, the CBN staff identified him through his identity card as Daniel Adefemi Okunade, who was shot in the head at point blank range and died immediately.
The identities of the three other persons killed during the operation are yet to be ascertained as of the time of this report.
According to eyewitness account, the operation, which seemed like a planned assassination, lasted less than two minutes during which the CBN staff, was shot dead.
The late CBN staff is said to be the choir master of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) also in One Man Village.
He was said to have had a brief stop at the Supermarket to buy bread for his family when the robbers stormed the ever busy store and took lives out of the four customers.
His Toyota Venza Car parked outside the Supermarket was not touched by the men of the underworld.
The late Okunade was said to be returning from work when he met his untimely death in the hands of the suspected robbers.
At the time of this report, the atmosphere in the area was pensive and charged as people kept trooping into the Supermarket to identify the robbery victims.
Meanwhile, police operatives from New Nyayan Divisional Police Station have moved the corpse of the robbery victims to the Mararaba Medical Center mortuary in Mararaba.
No Information has yet been made public by the police on the incident.
However, hundreds of sympathizers, including church members, have been trooping to the house of the late CBN staff to sympathize with his family.
