Lagos Govt Announces Fresh Closure Of Third Mainland Bridge
The Lagos State Government has reminded the motoring public that the repairs on the Third Mainland Bridge, by the Federal Ministry of Works, will continue with the closure of Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound section on Tuesday.

Lagos State Government says vehicular activities on the busy Third Mainland Bridge will be hampered for some time.
This is as the State government disclosed that plans are underway to commence the repairs of the bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The decision to temporarily close the Third Mainland Bridge stems from the need for extensive repairs to ensure its structural integrity and the safety of commuters. The Federal Ministry of Works, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, has deemed it imperative to address the wear and tear that has accumulated over the years.
The closure is bound to have a profound impact on vehicular activities in Lagos. With the bridge serving as a major route for both private and public transportation, commuters are likely to experience delays, rerouting, and increased travel times. The ripple effect could extend beyond individual commuters, affecting businesses that rely on timely transportation for goods and services.
Understanding the potential disruptions, the Lagos State Government is expected to implement mitigation measures to alleviate the impact on residents and businesses. These measures may include the optimization of alternative routes, improved public transportation services, and regular updates to keep the public informed about the progress of the repairs.
The repair work will lead to partial closure of Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound for the effective work of the entire section of the bridge.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the development this on Thursday.
He explained that the closure is part of the ongoing work that started in November 2023 focusing on fixing the ramps, and now, the remaining parts of the bridge will also be repaired in phases.
According to Osiyemi, “In line with the earlier notifications, the Lagos State Government wishes to remind the motoring public that the repairs of the Third Mainland Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works will continue with the closure of Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound for the effective repairs of the entire section of the bridge.
“The closure is part of the ongoing work that started in November 2023 focusing on fixing the ramps, and now, the remaining parts of the bridge will also be repaired.
“However, to ease the burden of commuting, the following arrangements have been made.
“From 12am to 12 noon, the bridge is open for Mainland Inbound Island travels, while those who intend to come from the Island to the Mainland are advised to use Eko Bridge.
“Conversely, from 12 noon to midnight, Motorists will be able to access the bridge from the Island to the Mainland while motorists from the Mainland heading towards the Island will have to use Eko Bridge.
“These timings have been selected to match the peak period flow of traffic and reduce travel stress. Please cooperate with our traffic management officials who will be helping out.
“Thanks for your usual understanding and cooperation. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe.”
