
Armed robbers attacked a road safety officer, identified as Abu, on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State, as he was returning from a bank to his home in Zango.
The assailants intercepted Abu, who was on a motorcycle, and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money after shooting him multiple times.
Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers followed Abu from the bank to Phase One Lokongoma, near the Lokongoma market. They double-crossed him, attempted to seize his bag containing a large sum of money, and shot him three times in both legs and the shoulder during the struggle.
State Police Public Relations Officer William Aya confirmed the incident, stating that officers received a distress call around 1:30 pm and rushed to the scene, finding Abu lying in a pool of blood.
Aya explained, “He was coming from the bank when a Toyota Camry, ash in color, blocked him in front of the Lokongoma market, Phase One in Lokoja, and the robbers took an unspecified sum of money from him.”
Police recovered N139,000 at the scene, and Abu was promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
