The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates against attempting multiple registrations for the upcoming 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration exercise.
The UTME is a pivotal step for students in Nigeria seeking admission into tertiary institutions. It serves as a standardized assessment to evaluate candidates’ academic preparedness and determine their eligibility for admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The integrity of this examination is crucial to ensuring a level playing field for all applicants.
Pius, the spokesperson for JAMB, stressed the importance of carefully reading and comprehending the registration guidelines provided by the board. This advisory is not only a reminder of the ethical conduct expected from candidates but also a proactive measure to curb any potential instances of malpractice. By emphasizing the significance of adherence to guidelines, JAMB aims to create awareness and foster a sense of responsibility among applicants.
Engaging in multiple registrations can have severe consequences for candidates and the integrity of the examination process. JAMB employs advanced technologies to detect and flag instances of multiple registrations, and those found guilty of such practices risk disqualification from the entire examination process. This not only jeopardizes an individual’s chances of admission but also tarnishes their academic record.
The warning against multiple registrations aligns with JAMB’s commitment to preserving the fairness and integrity of the UTME. In a highly competitive environment where every student aspires to secure a place in esteemed institutions, maintaining a level playing field is paramount. By discouraging unethical practices, JAMB seeks to ensure that the admission process is transparent, just, and accessible to all deserving candidates.
Registration for the 2024 UTME is scheduled to begin on January 15.
In its recent bulletin, JAMB, through a statement signed by Ville Pius, the director of its test administration department, explicitly stated its intention to disqualify and prosecute candidates found engaging in multiple registrations.
“Multiple registrations are not allowed in the 2024 UTME exercise; candidates who register more than once would be identified, disqualified, and prosecuted,” Pius said.
The director emphasized approaching the board for corrections rather than getting new application documents for any registration errors. Failure to do so may result in disqualification due to multiple registrations.
Candidates were advised by Pius to carefully read and comprehend the registration guidelines. After registration, they must sign an MoU committing to ethical standards.
Additionally, the director cautioned against sharing security details like registration numbers and passwords with others. No test center is permitted to ask for or accept candidates’ passwords.
JAMB announced a February 26 deadline for the 2024 UTME Registration, with the exams scheduled from April 19 to 29.
As prospective candidates gear up for the 2024 UTME, JAMB’s warning against multiple registrations serves as a crucial reminder of the ethical standards expected in the examination process. Upholding the fairness and integrity of the UTME is not only the responsibility of the examination board but also a shared commitment with the candidates. Adhering to the guidelines, avoiding unethical practices, and fostering a culture of honesty contribute to the creation of a level playing field where merit is the primary determinant of success. As students embark on their academic journey, JAMB’s vigilance ensures that the pathway to higher education remains just, transparent, and accessible to all deserving individuals.
