MultiChoice has revised its subscription costs for DStv and GOtv customers in Nigeria in response to a court decision directing it to stop raising prices. After disclosing a drop in its Nigerian subscriber base that resulted in the loss of over a million users, the business vowed to appeal the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal’s verdict in Abuja.
As of Sunday, June 16, 2024, MultiChoice has made the necessary adjustments to its business applications. The changes mean that subscribers of DStv’s Premium plan will now pay N29,500 instead of N37,000, and those of the Compact+ package will now pay N19,800 instead of the previous N25,000.
Following the revision, subscribers of the Compact Bouquet will now pay N12,500 instead of N15,700, and those of the Confam bundle will pay N7,400 instead of N9,300 each month. Subscribers to the Yanga package will pay the previous rate of N4,200 instead of the new rate of N5,100, and subscribers to the Padi package will pay the old price of N2,950 instead of N3,600. The same is true for GOtv customers, who must now pay N12,500 instead of N15,700 for the Super+ bundle, the old rates. GOtv Max subscribers must pay N5,700; GOtv Joli, N3,950; and GOtv Jinja, N2,700. GOtv Super users must pay N7,600 from the N9,600 that the firm charged.
In light of changing market conditions, MultiChoice’s decision to modify DStv and GOtv subscription costs demonstrates the company’s responsiveness to legal requirements and customer input. The effect on subscribers highlights how Nigeria’s media and telecommunications sectors are shaped by the interaction of competitive pressures, regulatory control, and affordability.
MultiChoice’s ability to strike a balance between customer affordability, service excellence, and financial sustainability will be critical as it plots its future. MultiChoice seeks to manage risks and seize opportunities in Nigeria’s changing media environment by embracing regulatory compliance, building consumer trust, and stimulating innovation. The success of MultiChoice’s price changes ultimately depends on its ability to innovate, adapt, and connect with a range of consumer groups in a market that is becoming more digital and competitive. The agility and resilience exhibited by MultiChoice will continue to shape consumer experiences and industry dynamics in Nigeria’s changing media environment as stakeholders keep an eye on developments.
