Tragedy Strikes Kidandan Village: 10 Children Injured in Explosive Incident

Tension gripped Kidandan Village in the Giwa LGA of Kaduna State today as 10 children suffered injuries in a sudden explosion.

No fewer than 10 children were fatally injured on Saturday as an explosion rocked Kidandan Village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred Saturday afternoon as children who had gone into the bush to fetch firewood returned home with a strange object suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED).

The object, suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED), detonated, causing a devastating explosion. The blast resulted in no fewer than 10 children being critically injured. The immediate aftermath was chaos, with the injured children and their families grappling with the shock and horror of the situation.

In the face of such a dire situation, the immediate priority was to ensure the injured children received prompt and adequate medical attention. Emergency services swiftly descended upon Kidandan Village, with ambulances rushing the injured to the nearest hospital for treatment. The local community, stunned by the sudden turn of events, rallied together to support the affected families and offer assistance where possible.

The injured children were admitted to the hospital, where medical professionals worked tirelessly to assess and treat their injuries. The medical team faced the daunting task of addressing a range of injuries resulting from the explosion. The hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, and support personnel, displayed commendable resilience and dedication in the face of this tragic situation.

The village head of Kidandan, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, confirmed the incident, saying that “we thank God; there was no death, but 10 people were injured.

“The injured children have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Right now, I am compiling their names,” he said.

He also said that, operatives of the Nigeria Police had visited the community as of Saturday evening.

Explaining what happened, Councilor Representing Kidandan Ward, Hon. Abdullahi Ismail said the children picked the object in the bush where they went to fetch firewood and they were bringing it home when it exploded.

“I was told the children picked the object in the bush when they went looking for firewood. It exploded and injured them badly,” he said.

Other sources from the community said the intestine of one of the victims was pulped out, while others had their legs and arms broken.

Spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls put to him for confirmation of the incident.

The tragedy that befell Kidandan Village serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the unforeseen challenges that communities may face. As the injured children undergo treatment and the community comes to terms with the aftermath, there is a collective hope for healing and resilience.
