The All Workers Convergence (AWC) has issued a strong statement declaring that anyone opposing the upcoming nationwide protest against economic hardship is an enemy of the people.
The declaration, made by AWC National Coordinator Comrade Andrew Emelieze, was shared with DAILY POST on Monday. The protest, set to commence on August 1, is organized in response to widespread hunger and governance issues in Nigeria.
AWC emphasized that protesting against poor governance, hunger, and insecurity is a fundamental right of the people. The group condemned those resisting the protest, labeling them as adversaries of public welfare.
In their statement, AWC argued that the protest is a necessary response to the severe challenges faced by Nigerians. The group described the protest as a fight against hunger and a stand against ongoing hardship.
“We continue to call for this protest until our system begins to serve the public good,” the statement read. “Protest is not only a right but a collective duty in such dire circumstances. It is unacceptable to remain passive while our citizens suffer.”
The AWC criticized the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of worsening the plight of Nigerians and failing to address critical issues. The group highlighted the stark contrast between the elite’s opulence and the widespread poverty endured by the majority.
“We refuse to sit idle as conditions deteriorate,” the statement added. “The government’s mockery of governance cannot continue. The protest is a necessary rebellion against the pervasive hardship and corruption.”
AWC affirmed its support for the planned protest, framing it as a critical move towards the genuine transformation of Nigeria. They called for unity among protest organizers and vowed to proceed with the demonstration, asserting, “Anyone opposed to this protest is an enemy of the people.”
