
In the early hours of Thursday, a building collapse in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, led to the death of at least ten people and injured at least seven others. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the Jegede Olunloyo area of Ona Ara Local Government.
According to a statement from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, a rescue operation was launched immediately following a distress call. Ten bodies were recovered from the rubble, while seven survivors were pulled out and taken for medical care. The rescue operation remains active as responders work to ensure no one is left trapped beneath the debris.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the details, noting that the team arrived shortly after the distress call and managed to rescue four individuals from the site, while three others had been freed before the team’s arrival. “Our men are still on the scene, working to ensure no one is left behind,” he added.
