directs citizens to submit petitions directly to its offices

Police Issues Notice To Nigerians On Petition Submission

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigerian Police Force’s public relations officer, has advised all residents to bring their petitions straight to the police stations, pointing out that the force does not have agents to handle citizen petitions.

Says the Nigeria Police does not have agents to take and process petitions from Nigerians
The FPRO further urged the public to expose and report anyone guilty of the offence via the force’s published complaint platforms.
Nigerians are hereby urged to always drop petitions to our offices as normal correspondence, as there are no special treatments or administrative bureaucracies on petitions.

This was revealed by Adejobi in a statement that was posted on the NPF’s official X handle on Sunday and was signed by him.

One key aspect of the notice is the assertion that all petitions should be treated as “normal correspondence.” The FPRO emphasizes that there are no special treatments or administrative bureaucracies when it comes to submitting petitions. This declaration aims to ensure a level playing field for all citizens seeking redress or assistance from the police, reinforcing the principle of equal access to justice.

The directive from the Nigerian Police Force underscores a commitment to accountability in public service. By discouraging the involvement of agents and intermediaries, the NPF aims to prevent potential misconduct, corruption, or exploitation of the petition submission process. This move aligns with broader efforts to build public trust in law enforcement agencies and ensures that citizens can engage with the police in a straightforward and transparent manner.

To further strengthen this commitment to accountability, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi urged the public to expose and report anyone found guilty of acting as an intermediary for petition submission. The NPF has established complaint platforms, providing citizens with avenues to report malpractices or attempts to exploit the petitioning process. This call for citizen vigilance reinforces the collaborative effort needed to maintain integrity within law enforcement operations.

The statement read, “It has been observed that many Nigerians seek the help and services of some unscrupulous and dubious elements in processing written complaints or petitions, which has hindered the smooth attention such petitions deserve and denied many justice.

“The Nigeria Police does not have agents to take and process petitions from Nigerians. These elements charge and dupe people for huge amounts under the pretence of processing their complaints with such funds and denting the image of the police and our senior officers.

“This is improper and unacceptable. Nigerians are hereby urged to always drop petitions to our offices as normal correspondence, as there are no special treatments or administrative bureaucracies on petitions.”

The FPRO further urged the public to expose and report anyone guilty of the offence via the force’s published complaint platforms.

He said, “We condemn this in its totality and will do everything possible to curb such, and whoever caught in that dirty deal will face the full wrath of the law.”
