Ruby Orjiakor, a Nigerian actress, has turned to social media to criticize her colleague Baba Rex for allegedly exploiting the passing of late actor Junior Pope for material. Ruby Orjiakor bemoaned Junior Pope’s premature death in a post dated June 3, 2024, and accused her colleague, Baba Rex, of exploiting the tragedy to create content. She expressed her disappointment, saying that even if Baba Rex had supposedly already started using the actor’s passing for his personal gain, Junior Pope’s soul had hardly had time to rest.
In addition, Ruby Orjiakor blamed controversial producer Adanma Luke, claiming that Luke was too preoccupied with divulging information about Junior Pope’s purported requests for work prospects to mourn Junior Pope’s loss with regret.
Ruby Orjiakor wrote;
“I came to pray specifically for you “SUPER STAR ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(AKPA SWAG) Your Legacy will never be forgotten 🙏💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
I also want to let you know that BABAREX @babarex0 your own man” has started using what happened to you as content ohhhhhhhh😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Everybody dey find their belle, no one cares, if only you listened to me😭
Again, @adanmaluke instead of feeling guilty for what happened to you and others, she was busy telling the whole world how you were begging her for jobs. I believe you can now understand better how w/cked the world is…
May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Christ ……🙏🙏🙏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL 🙏”
It is imperative that the Nollywood community gets together and considers the lessons learnt when this storm blows over. Baba Rex and Adanma Luke’s involvement in the debate have underlined the importance of being sensitive during times of loss, while Ruby Orjiakor’s public stance has brought attention to significant problems of ethics and respect. Going forward, it will be imperative that producers, actors, and industry leaders set clear rules and moral standards for content creation—especially when it comes to handling personal tragedies. By doing this, Nollywood can preserve the respect and confidence of its audience while paying tribute to the memories of its revered icons, such as Junior Pope.
