The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, does not influence the party’s decisions in Rivers State, asserting that he is neither a member of the APC nor attends its meetings.
In a press briefing at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the Rivers APC caretaker committee, addressed claims regarding Wike’s alleged influence. Okocha emphasized that Wike remains a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is not involved in APC activities.
Okocha stated, “It is laughable to think that Wike, who is an unwavering member of PDP, could influence APC decisions. He does not participate in our meetings. Despite efforts to bring him into our party, we recognize that he is committed to the PDP. His role as a minister under the APC government does not translate to influence over our party’s affairs.”
Regarding former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Okocha revealed that Amaechi has distanced himself from party activities since his defeat in the 2022 presidential primary election. He noted that Amaechi had explicitly instructed the party secretary not to invite him to future meetings.
Okocha explained, “Amaechi has not attended any of our meetings since the primary election. He even requested that he not be contacted about party matters. Therefore, we are uncertain about his current political affiliations.”
