Police in Abia apprehended three individuals posing as EFCC operatives who robbed students at gunpoint in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

Acting on information received on Tuesday, the police discovered a four-man gang in EFCC uniforms robbing students at their residence, dispossessing them of phones and coercing a transfer of N120,000.

On a fateful Tuesday, the police received information about a criminal gang dressed in EFCC uniforms, robbing students at gunpoint in their residences. The audacious impostors not only dispossessed students of their phones but also coerced a transfer of a substantial amount—N120,000—from their victims.

The culmination of the police operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects at the Man-O-War base. These impostors had successfully deceived students by posing as law enforcement officers, exploiting the trust and authority associated with the EFCC.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the university community, raising concerns about the safety and security of students. The audacity of the criminals, robbing victims at gunpoint within the confines of their residences, underscores the need for enhanced security measures on campus.

Three suspects were subsequently arrested at the Man-O-War base in MOUAU following a police visit to the crime scene.

She stated also that police recovered six stolen phones and the operational tricycle of the robbers from them.

The swift response and successful apprehension of the fake EFCC operatives by the police deserve commendation. The incident highlights the importance of a coordinated and proactive approach by law enforcement agencies in curbing criminal activities, especially those that undermine the safety of educational institutions.

Also recovered from the robbers were four EFCC jackets, two EFCC ID cards, one toy gun and four EFCC search warrants.
