The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has officially declared its support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. This comes amidst rising tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, which has led to a split within the State House of Assembly.
In a communiqué released after their meeting in Enugu on Wednesday, the PDP governors expressed their commitment to ensuring peace in Rivers State. The communiqué, signed by the Forum’s chairman and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, stated, “The Forum has resolved to stand by His Excellency, Sir Sim Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, while also engaging in wider consultations with stakeholders for a peaceful resolution and lasting solution to the crisis.”
The governors also lamented the perceived decline in Nigeria’s development under the current APC-led Federal Government. They highlighted the achievements of the PDP’s 16 years in power, citing low inflation, strong anti-corruption institutions, and improved living standards. The Forum noted, “The tremendous development under the PDP-led Federal Government has been eroded during the life span of the lacklustre APC-led Federal Government.”
In their communiqué, the governors pledged to restore Nigeria’s economic stability and quality of life, recalling the PDP’s past successes. “We promise to bring back those good old days of low inflation, affordable food, fuel, and transportation, steady FDI inflows, resulting in a high naira value and greater quality of life,” they stated.
The Forum also commended the innovative governance approaches of PDP-controlled states, particularly in infrastructure, education, health, and youth initiatives. They called on Nigerians to maintain peace as the party prepares for the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in their ability to reclaim power.
Additionally, the meeting acknowledged Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for hosting the first PDP Governors meeting outside Abuja in recent times. They praised his efforts in maintaining party unity in Enugu and the South Eastern Geo-political Zone and highlighted his achievements with major projects and interventions.
