Over 2,000 patients benefited from the first phase of the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) Free Health Medical Outreach program at Ukwa General Hospital, Oke Ikpe, in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State. During the week-long free healthcare program, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of NDDC, provided this information.
The details were included in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Friday by NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, and sent to newsmen.
Ogbuku, represented by the Abia State representative on the NDDC Board, Chief Eruba Dimgba, stated that the free healthcare initiative was organized in partnership with Derums Global Services to provide medical services to rural communities across the Niger Delta region. The outreach program aims to improve the health conditions and narratives of medically underserved populations in the region.
He remarked, “The program had in the recent past, been the flagship of the Commission, serving to endear the Commission to these medically needy communities, with documented evidence and testimonies, abounding of their beneficial impact in enhancing the quality of life of the rural poor in the Region.
“The objective of the programme undertaken, in collaboration with various healthcare organisations, is to ensure access to good healthcare services by removing financial barriers to accessing good and qualitative healthcare services, posed by the prevailing high costs of healthcare services in the midst of a weakened Health system and infrastructure.
“So far over 2000 patients have benefited from the free healthcare programme which is in tandem with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hoped Agenda’ to restore the hope of Nigerians and we are impressed with the caliber of medical professionals handling this. ”
The NDDC Chief Executive Officer said that as an interventionist agency, the Commission had championed good health as being integral to the successful realisation of its mandate in facilitating the sustainable development of the Niger Delta Region.
More than 2,000 patients’ lives have been significantly improved by the NDDC Free Health Medical Outreach in Abia State, which has improved health outcomes in the Ukwa West Local Government Area and provided much-needed medical care. This project emphasizes the value of easily available healthcare and the beneficial effects that these initiatives may have on marginalized populations. These projects need to be continuously supported and acknowledged as the NDDC works to improve healthcare access throughout the Niger Delta. The Ukwa General Hospital outreach program’s effectiveness serves as evidence of what can be accomplished when resources are gathered to address the public’s healthcare needs.
The narrative of the NDDC Free Health Medical Outreach is a motivational illustration of how focused initiatives can result in notable advancements in public health, which in turn can enhance the region’s overall growth and welfare.
