The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing has reaffirmed the necessity of adhering to the constitutional rotation system for electing the President General of the parent Ohanaeze Ndigbo organization. The group emphasized that it is now Rivers State’s turn to occupy the position following the completion of Imo State’s tenure.
In a statement released after their 57th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Enugu, the Youth Wing stressed that the rotational arrangement is vital for maintaining unity and fairness within the organization. The communique, signed by National President Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, called on Ime Obi, the highest decision-making body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to honor this constitutional mandate.
The group warned against any attempts to derail the process, stating that such moves would face strong opposition. They urged other branches of the organization, including the Elders Council, Women Wing, and Council of Ndi Eze, to provide guidance and leadership during this transitional period.
The youth wing also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and South East governors for the dignified state funeral accorded to the late President General, Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu. However, they raised alarms over alleged financial irregularities within the organization and called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate.
In addition to internal concerns, the group criticized the rising costs of energy and essential goods, lamenting the economic challenges faced by Nigerians. They also questioned reports claiming that the Port Harcourt refinery had resumed full operations.
Furthermore, the youth group decried the exclusion of Igbo youths from corporate social responsibility initiatives by key federal agencies such as the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and NNPC Limited. They called for greater inclusivity in national programs to foster unity, stability, and security across the country.
