The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has thrown its weight behind the South-East governors’ initiative to negotiate for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, dismissing objections from Simon Ekpa, the self-styled Prime Minister of the Biafra Government in Exile. Ekpa had earlier criticized the governors, questioning their legitimacy to negotiate Kanu’s freedom.
In a statement addressed to journalists, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, emphasized that the governors are duly elected leaders who represent the interests of the people. He questioned Ekpa’s credibility to challenge the legitimacy of elected officials from a distant location like Finland.
Nnabuike expressed bewilderment at Ekpa’s consistent opposition to efforts aimed at securing Kanu’s release, suggesting that Ekpa might benefit from Kanu’s prolonged detention rather than genuinely serving the interests of the Igbo people.
He urged the South-East governors not to be swayed by Ekpa’s actions, emphasizing the need for them to proceed with determination in their negotiations with the Federal Government. Nnabuike called on all South-East National Assembly members to collaborate closely with the governors in pushing for Kanu’s swift release, expressing confidence that the current administration would respond positively to their efforts.
