Nigerian Army Condemns Attack on Military Personnel in Delta State

The Nigerian army has issued a statement in response to the tragic killing of military personnel in Delta State.

Amidst ongoing communal tensions between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State, the troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, stationed in Bomadi Local Government Area, were deployed on a peacekeeping mission to the Okuoma community.

On Thursday, 14 March 2024, tragedy struck as the troops were ambushed by community youths while responding to a distress call. The ambush resulted in the loss of lives, including the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers from the reinforcement team.

In response to this appalling incident, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has ordered an immediate investigation to bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice. The Delta State Government has also been notified of the incident.

The Nigerian army’s official statement, as provided by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, underscores the military’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the nation. Despite the setback, the army remains focused on its mandate.

“SITUATION REPORT ON THE ATTACK AND KILLING OF MILITARY PERSONNEL ON PEACE MISSION BY OKUOMA COMMUNITY.

On Thursday, 14 March 2024, the troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, stationed in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, were ambushed and killed while on a peacekeeping mission to the OKUOMA community in BOMADI LGA. The attack occurred following a distress call amidst communal unrest between the Okuama and Okoloba communities within Delta State.

Tragically, the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers lost their lives in the ambush, including members of the reinforcement team.
