NECO Denies Extending Closing Date for SSCE Internal Registration

76 subjects will be assessed for the candidates during the exam.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has said it has not extended the closing date for the registration of 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school-based candidates (Internal).

The registration, which started on Monday December 18, 2023 will close on Monday, June 3, 2024.

NECO’s SSCE is a critical examination for secondary school students in Nigeria, serving as a gateway to higher education and future career opportunities. The registration process for the SSCE internal candidates typically involves several steps, including submission of required documents, payment of registration fees, and filling out personal and academic information.

The Council stated that from Tuesday, June 4, 2024 to Monday, June 10, 2024, late registration is available and will incur a “late registration cost.” Azeez Sani, Acting Director of the NECO’s Directorate of Information and Digital Communication, issued a press release on Thursday in which he urged candidates, school principals, commandants, state ministries of education, and other stakeholders to ignore posts on social media that claimed to extend the registration period to Monday, June 20, 2024.

It added, “The 2024 SSCE Internal will commence on 19th June, 2024 and end on 26th July 2024.

“Candidates will be assessed in 76 subjects during the examination.”

An essential component of Nigeria’s educational system, the NECO SSCE has a big impact on students’ academic and career paths. NECO is not the only organization that strictly adheres to registration deadlines in order to maintain fairness, organization, and reliability in standardized testing.

Staying informed and proactive is crucial for all parties concerned as the June 3, 2024 deadline draws near. NECO’s resolute position about the deadline demonstrates its dedication to upholding the fairness and effectiveness of the SSCE procedure. To fulfill this deadline and guarantee a seamless and productive exam period, parents, schools, and students must coordinate their activities.

There is no way to extend the June 3, 2024, NECO SSCE enrollment deadline. Through comprehension of the significance of this deadline and execution of the required actions to meet it, pupils can concentrate on their study, guaranteeing they are equipped to perform exceptionally well in them. Together, these well-coordinated efforts will support Nigeria’s educational standards and help ensure the success of the 2024 SSCE.
